Our History
2023
On October 2nd, Hillside Montessori families, students, staff, and board were joined by friends and supporters from around the community for our much anticipated groundbreaking ceremony.
Each individual at Hillside Montessori is driven to help all students reach their full potential.
First and foremost this new campus is for the children. It will serve as the foundation for learning experiences that result in a life of leadership, service, and innovation . This campus is also about our community and how those two things – the education of our children and the future of our community – are so intimately connected.
2022
A Toddler program was added and additional Lower Elementary and Primary classes were opened, bringing in a record enrollment of 111 students and increasing faculty/staff numbers to 23.
2021
Through an agreement with the Callaway family, HML acquired 13.6 acres of land on Hills and Dales Farm Road. The school also contracted with the City of LaGrange to install sewage and water systems to the property.
2020
HML received full accreditation from the Georgia Accreditation Commission (GAC) for all programs: Preschool, Kindergarten, Elementary, and Middle School. Students who were in 1st grade in the inaugural class graduated 8th grade and moved on to high school.
2018-2019
The 2018-2019 academic year brought a record 70 students in Preschool-8th grade.
2018
HML announced plans to build a new school after acquiring five acres of land and receiving a $1.5 million grant from the Callaway Foundation.
2017
HML added two new programs, its Primary and Adolescent communities, and enrolled a record 58 students. Hillside Montessori also became licensed by Bright from the Start, Georgia’s Department of early Care and Learning.
2016
HML was named Small Business of the Year by the LaGrange Troup County Chamber of Commerce.
2015
HML divided into two separate classes, Lower and Upper Elementary.
2014
Foreseeing the need for annual growth, HML leased the former Unity Elementary building from Troup County School System.
2013
Having outgrown The Mitchell House, HML moved to Advent Lutheran Church with 26 students and added an Upper Elementary program.
August 2012
HML’s inaugural class of 12 students began school.
Spring 2012
HML found its first home in the Mitchell House at LaGrange College and hosted its first Open House and enrollment season.
July 7, 2011
Hillside Montessori of LaGrange, Inc. was incorporated with the State Of Georgia as an official 501(c)3 organization. The first Board of Directors was formed.
2010
A group of four individuals whose children/grandchildren attended First Presbyterian Church Montessori met to discuss the possibility of a Montessori elementary school. After several months of pursuing the option of expanding the programs at FPC, the church decided that it was not an option and the group began pursuing other options.
An official steering committee of seven individuals was formed. That committee began the process of creating a new school.
